A word on heartbreak for Christian Girls

Today I wanted to write a post about heartbreak for Christian Girls. I want girls everywhere to know that although heartbreak hurts and is basically something you can't avoid in this beautiful world, it is always worth it to go through a trying experience. You will always come out stronger and refined in the end.

Although heartbreak hurts,
everything that is painful has a purpose.

If I could tell girls anything, I would encourage girls to actively strive to let love into your life without fear of getting hurt. There is so much beauty that comes from heartbreak. It's a process we all must go through to be the girl God wants us to be. The most incredible thing of all is the knowledge that Christ will always heal your heart. Your heart won't stay broken forever, I promise.

My very wise and beautiful cousin once shared these words of wisdom -
"Worst case scenario, you had your hopes up and you get your heart broken. But that's not actually so bad. Just place your hope in the atonement and in God's plan and remember that God works with us best when we come to Him with a broken heart. He'll heal it and make you better. So don't be afraid of heartbreak."

Although we've been discussing love, heartbreak doesn't just relate to love and relationships. It can relate to every area of your life. Plans not working out, dreams not coming true, heartbreak in feeling lost and alone, fear or dismay, pain or agony. Everything that hurts us and causes us pain and our hearts to tremble, is simply beautiful. Think about it, we wouldn't be who we are if we never went through hard situations and experiences we had to overcome. While the pain can be so excruciating at that moment, it's moments like that where we come out stronger and better. You can look back through your life and see that Heavenly Father made adjustments to the fairy-tale you thought you wanted, only to see He designed the perfect Happily Ever After, just for YOU because He knows you personally. Every single thing that breaks your heart, God uses those experiences to build your mansion, helping you to become the girl you were meant to be.

The beautiful thing I have discovered about heartbreak is God speaks to you more clearly and more easily when your heart is broken and needs a little mending. When that feeling becomes overwhelming and you feel alone, wishing it would all be taken away, that is when you turn to God. Allow God to mend your heart for you! Through the power of prayer, you will find the purpose of the trial you are facing.

Heartbreak leads to humility. When you practice humility, it means you are admitting that you are not strong enough to do it on your own. {Mosiah 4:11-12} That is when you reach out for Heavenly Father's help. Heavenly Father wants you to turn to Him. He loves you so much and He longs to heal your heart. Sometimes Heavenly Father will intentionally put heartbreak on your path so you have the opportunity to experience the beautiful tenderness He always has to offer.

I love these 3 Scriptures and the way they explain how you must be humble so He can dwell within you:

1) Isiah 57:15 - For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

2) D&C 56:18 - But blessed are the poor who are pure in heart, whose hearts are broken, and whose spirits are contrite, for they shall see the kingdom of God coming in power of great glory unto their deliverance; for the fatness of the earth shall be theirs.

3) 2 Nephi 2:7 - Behold, he offereth himself a sacrifice for sin, to answer the ends of the law, unto all those who have a broken heart and a contrite spirit; and unto none else can the ends of the law be answered. {Christ offers himself to those who have a broken heart}

God can take away so much of our pain, but sometimes He allows us to experience this turmoil and heartbreak so He can speak to us, humble us, make us whole, and guide us in the direction that He knows is best for our life. After all, He makes weak things become strong. {Ether 12:27}

Nothing sums up what I am trying to say, better than the lyrics from Hillary Week's song, 'Beautiful Heartbreak.'

I had it all mapped out in front of me
Knew just where I wanted to go
But life decided to change my plans
And I found a mountain in the middle of my road
I knew there was no way to move it
So I searched for a way around
Broken-hearted I started climbing
And at the top I found

Every fear, every doubt, all the pain I went through
Was the price that I paid to see this view
Now that I'm here I would never trade
The grace that I feel and the faith that I find
Through the bittersweet tears and the sleepless nights
I used to pray He'd take it all away
But instead it became
A beautiful heartbreak

I never dreamed my heart would make it
And I thought about turning around
But Heaven has shown me miracles
I never would have seen from the ground
Now I take the rain with the sunshine
Cause there's one thing that I know
He picks up the pieces
Along each broken road

Every fear, every doubt, all the pain I went through
Was the price that I paid to see this view
Now that I'm here I would never trade
The grace that I feel and the faith that I find
Through the bittersweet tears and the sleepless nights
I used to pray He'd take it all away
But instead it became
A beautiful heartbreak

Also, here is a talk given by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, April 2006.
It is titled ''Broken Things To Mend' ... I highly recommend it. To read the talk, go HERE!

A Letter to my Future Husband

Dear Future Husband,

You have been on my mind for quite some time now.
Lately a lot more often than ever before.
I pray about you and for you on many occasions.
I have no doubt in my mind that Heavenly Father is very happy with
you and he is working on allowing our paths to cross.

I pray for your happiness often.
I pray for your choices to be able to lead you to me.
I pray for both of our hearts to desire humility so we can be guided to each other,
all through the help of our loving Heavenly Father.

I am most looking forward to being your cheerleader.
I want to support you in ALL that you do.
I believe in you with all of my heart!

Every dream you have, every ambition that crosses your mind,
every passion that wakes you up in the morning, I want to support all of that!
I want to build you up each day and let you know how much you mean to me.

Heavenly Father has already let me know how amazing you are.
In fact he encourages me to be better every single day,
so I can be ready for you when our paths cross.
He is teaching me so many lessons lately,
so I will be prepared for our beautiful marriage.
He reminds me often what true humility is all about, I know this will be essential
as we establish a strong eternal marriage that will last through the eternities.

Heavenly Father is teaching me patience ALL THE TIME,
you must be a pretty patient guy and he wants me to be equivalent to you.
Every time I pray about you, I feel strongly that service is just as important to you,
as it is to me.
Just think of the impact we can have on this world.
We sure will make one incredible team.

I know I will meet you very soon,
as Satan keeps trying to find ways to distract me from meeting you.
I know he doesn't want us to meet, which is so flattering to me.
If he is trying so hard to stop me from meeting you, we have some incredible work
to do and we are going to have an incredible impact on our posterity.

It's like I can already feel you near, which is the most amazing feeling ever.
The love I have for you and the commitment I have to God
gives me the strength to stay strong and avoid all temptation and distractions.
My love for you is already so strong. It grows every moment I think about you.

I love you! I truly can't wait to meet you. I will continue to pray for you constantly.
We are going to have the most incredible happily ever after.
Be safe and stay true to the covenants you've made so we can go to the
temple together soon.

Love your biggest fan and future wife,
Ashley Marie

Dear Ashley Marie

Dear Ashley Marie,
I love wearing lip gloss but sometimes feel it starts running, what can I do to prevent this?
Sincerely,
Kendyl

Dear Kendyl,
This is normal, it usually depends on the kind of lip gloss you are using. But the funny thing is usually the best most moisturizing kinds tend to do this. One way to help you keep the lip gloss placed where you want it is to wear a lip liner. Now go with me for a minute. I know when you think of lip liner you think super fancy or that is for mom's. If you use one that is the perfect color for your lips and the gloss it will work. Want to hear an even cooler trick? CLEAR LIP LINER! - I know SO BRILLIANT! Clear lip liner isn't noticeable, it will keep your lip gloss/ lip stick placed where it needs to be and will help keep your lips looking beautiful! It is amazing stuff!

You can buy it HERE!

Love,
Ashley Marie

Dear Ashley Marie,
There is this totally cute boy in my Spanish class. I'm not sure he even knows I exist but I think it would be so fun to go out on a date with him. How do I get him to notice me?
Love,
Girl with a crush

Dear Girl with a crush,
Getting to know different guys in high school can be rough. One of the best things you can do to get him to notice you is to smile at him. Smiling makes you look friendly, happy, confident and outgoing. He is sure to notice you if you start smiling at him more often and letting him see your gorgeous personality shine through that stunning smile you got.
Try it.... what can you loose?
Love,
Ashley Marie

Dear Ashley Marie,
Sometimes I feel like I am in a box. I want to be more outgoing and help people more but I am clueless as to where to start. HELP!
Love,
Collette

Dear Collette,
That is such a great goal you have! There are some really simple steps you can take to help people more. If you are more on the shy end then start by writing one note a day!
Write a note to your friend thanking her for being so patient with you. Write a note to the elderly lady that lives across the street just letting her know you care. Write a note to your favorite cafe' thanking them for always serving you. Write a note to a past teacher that really helped you when you needed it the most.
This should be a great start. I want to hear all about it so please write me after doing this step and I will show you more ways to help you branch out more and show people that you care! Good luck!
Love,
Ashley Marie

How to get over a breakup

Breakups suck. They just do.

Sometimes they are needed though. Sometimes they help you find who you are again.
Sometimes they help you to grow strength. Sometimes they can give you a renewed sense
of yourself that has been missing for awhile.

The following is a list of what I have found to be the "Best's" for breakups.

The best movie for a breakup:
Legally Blonde - - why? It is a complete girl power movie.
I mean first Elle gets dumped and feels sad but that doesn't last long.
Elle then starst fighting for a dream that she didn't know was
inside of her. The whole time Elle fights for this dream, she stays true
to herself and doesn't care what others think and
everyone falls in love with her as she is true to her personality.
Then as Elle starts chasing this dream for herself, she meets the love
of her life and she didn't have to change one bit for him.

Elle never let her personal problems get in the way.
She stood up for herself when she needed to.
She even went out of her way to help others feel
loved and accepted.

Elle had so much faith in herself.
She had confidence that just radiates.

{I may or may not have watched this movie 5 times in the past week}

Best food for a breakup:
Chocolate Ice cream and fudge bars - - you can never go wrong with chocolate

Best mood lifter for a breakup:
Curl your hair, wear your special outfits, rock that new glamour look!
Put an effort into getting ready and looking your greatest and you
will feel confident everywhere you go.
Confidence is needed so much during this hard time.

Best way to deal with a breakup:
Talk - find someone you can confide in and talk to them. Open up.
Let all the past scars be the solace to what has made you stronger.
You are free - focus on the opportunities that lie before you
AND PRAY - which is kinda the same thing.
Talk to Heavenly Father and ask him for his help in this.
He knows everything on your heart all ready, so share it with
the one who wants what is best for you.

Best song for a breakup:
I can't pick just one.
Better in time - Leona Lewis
Stronger - Kelly Clarkson
First cut is the deepest - Sheryl Crow

(Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson have written tons of songs
relating to breakups but many of them relate to the certain circumstances that they
went through, I found it hard to relate to many of them.)

That's all I can think of right now. There may be a part 2 to this post.
I just wanted to share what has worked best for me so if you ever find yourself
going through a hard breakup maybe some of these will help.
Just find what works best for you.
Like they say, Time will heal all wounds.
Maybe if I get brave I will share my whole story.
